About Thirdbase
Thirdbase is an art and residency programme, created in parallel with an innovative hotel, opening in Lisbon in 2020, with a focus on contemporary arts and unique guest experiences.
Open and forward-thinking, Thirdbase is a space for experimentation, welcoming all disciplines and encouraging intersections between them.
Our aim is to support emerging artists, promote new contemporary experiences, encourage interdisciplinary and intercultural communication and create a diverse and supportive community and exchange between artists, guests and the local community. Thirdbase gathers a diverse selection of artists to develop ideas, further their practice, engage in collaboration and display their work in Lisbon’s inspiring creative scene, providing them with new and alternative spaces for expression.
Thirdbase hosts and organizes artist talks, open studios, exhibitions and other cultural events, as well as facilitating exchange with other artists and art professionals.
About the residency
The Residency Programme welcomes two artists of all kinds of practices to our studio space for a 3-month residency, providing an opportunity for them to create for a specific space and context, as well as to collaborate with another artist to develop their project, which will be installed in allocated rooms of the hotel for an agreed period of time.
Thirdbase provides each artist with housing, a shared studio space, production budget, roundtrip flights to Lisbon and curatorial guidance. Artists will benefit from exposure through our communications, the chance to immerse in Lisbon’s art community and to become an active part of Thirdbase’s future Collabs project.
Studio
Our pop-up Studio, in Lisbon’s creative Beato neighbourhood, is a 280 sqm two-floor open space, with a street-level gallery and community space used to host exhibitions, talks, presentations, performances and other events, and a natural light-filled floor downstairs with ample work space, equipped with different types of hand tools, saws, drills, work tables, etc, where each group of artists is encouraged to organize and create their workspace.
The studio also offers some media equipment: Digital camera, video projector, portable digital audio recorder, basic studio photography and lighting equipment and an A3 printer/scanner.
