  • Artists from all countries 
  • All practices & mediums
  • Must be proficient in English
  • Must be available for the full length of the residency session
  • Must not be enrolled in another residency during the same period

SPECIFICS

  • Residency duration: 3 months
  • Creation of 3 or more works for allocated spaces in the hotel
  • Works are exhibited in the hotel for an agreed period of time
  • Becoming part of Third Base community & network

thirdbase provides

A production budget of up to €500 per room, travel expenses for arrival and departure from the residency (economy class up to €500 within Europe and up to €1000 for Inter-continental flights), fully furnished accommodation, and an equipped studio space.

An Art Director will guide you through your creative process, providing advice and support, as well as helping you keep your work aligned with the project’s objectives and constraints. At the end of each session, Thirdbase organizes an exhibition of the artist’s work developed during their residency season.

selection process

Artists are selected by the Thirdbase Art Director in conjunction with a group of art professionals connected to Thirdbase. Applying artists are notified of the results of the selection via email, selected artiests will be in direct contact with our team who will provide assistance with any kind of technical questions that may arise prior to the beginning of the residency and arrival in Lisbon.

application process

  • Apply on your own or as a pair with an artist you wish to collaborate with
  • Draw up a project proposal for both single and collaborative projects: you should specify the medium & materials used, write a text describing the creative process and potential implementation and insert a sketch setting your artwork within the space. The project proposal must be in PDF format
  • Fill out the Typeform application form (link at the bottom of the page) specifying your background, describing your motivations, project and ideas to create for Thirdbase. If applying as a pair, both artists must submit applications individually as well as presenting a project to develop jointly
  • Applications must be written in English

Results are announced on the 15th of the month following the deadline
